Your size is not your size
A look at Palace x Reebok, a shoe that's actually a bag, leaking a new top-secret footwear brand, sunglasses under $100, and more.
We got a couple of heavy hitters in today’s recommendations letter — going to check out the upcoming Palace + Reebok collab, a look at some new heat from Hender Scheme that’s bringing fun to fashion, un-gatekeeping a new shoe brand that keeps putting out really good models, shirts and sunglasses for under $100, where you can get some sneeze tees for the low, and some bag recommendations on sale right now.
Before we dive into the weekly recs, I wanted to tackle a question many of us have had, especially when trying to buy something online — “What size should I get?”. This is a question that might seem simple in theory, and it probably is, but what if I told you that you’re not limited to the size you’ve been sticking to for decades? Ok, hear me out.
Buying clothes is all about trial and error, the more variety you try the better of an idea you have when making future purchases. For example, I’m typically a size L for my tops, but I definitely can make M work just as well. Throughout my experience, I’ve learned that I can actually fit into S-M in brands like Comme Des Garcons, which doesn’t really make sense but it works — a smaller size lets me pair other clothes that might fit bigger, allowing for some really interesting layering opportunities down the line.
I think for pants you have the option to get a bigger size and then just belt it, but in reality, I would suggest sticking to what you normally wear to avoid any fit issues. The ability to buy different sizes only applies to tops in my opinion. Throughout this process, I’ve learned that I can fit between S to XL in tees, shirts and jackets. It comes down to preference for the fit you want and how you can utilize these sizes across different pieces within your wardrobe — for example, a smaller shirt might look good with a certain jacket underneath versus a larger shirt paired with the same jacket. Certain tee sizes and cuts might not look as great paired with some other shirts, and so on.
This approach is harder to translate to online shopping, so I think the best way to do this is in person first. Understand how to approach this, and through trial and error, you’ll better understand how to execute this, which will end up creating a whole new world of style for you. Next time you’re shopping don’t hesitate to try out a size that you might not usually go for because you never know how it might end up looking on your body. One larger size might give it that relaxed look while a smaller size keeps things slightly tighter but creates more cohesiveness throughout your outfit, especially if you’re someone who’s enjoying baggier bottoms at this very moment.
Rant over… it’s one of those topics that is hard to explain through words, but hopefully, this will get you thinking next time you’re shopping.
PALACE + REEBOK
Enough yapping though, let’s get into the recommendations. We’re getting blessed this Friday with another collab between Palace and Reebok — and even though the haters are deeming this as lazy, I think the simplicity and the choice of vintage colors are going to be a banger this summer.
Sometimes you just need something effortless and simple to wear out the door, and I find that these pieces are going to fit this theme perfectly. Big branding might feel annoying but in a more sportier context, I think it’s just fine. Sweat shorts might be my favorites, because there’s nothing better than a pair of easy to wear, over the knee sweat shorts to run some errands in.
Shoes are a no-brainer. If you’re looking for ideas and just need a solid everyday contender, then the Club C is the easiest choice you’ll make. Sure, you could just cop a vintage chalk colorway and call it a day, but sometimes it’s nice to have something different.
The Palace x Reebok collaboration is set to drop on the Palace website this Friday, June 5th.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
Once in a while a brand will come around, not taking themselves too seriously and they end up dropping a neck-turning piece. If you’ve ever experienced Hender Scheme in person then you know their leather line-up has always been top-tier, and when you throw some fun in the mix you end up creating an item that stands above the rest. This is how I feel about the upcoming Shoe Bag from their SS24 collection.
Amazing execution on this piece that I know is going to age like fine wine. I just love the concept, and the execution is too good. An absolute conversation starter no matter where you are. This piece isn’t out just yet so there’s time to stack some money for it, but I definitely wouldn’t wait around because Hender Scheme bags sell out pretty fast.
