What to buy this week
Checking out the new 18 East Winter collection, my favorite long coats right now, drops you don't want to miss, and more!
Things are slowly winding down here at SNL for the holidays, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t pump out some last recommendations before the end of the year. It’s wild to think that we only have a few more newsletters to go before we hit 2025 — I definitely have some thoughts to share, questions to ask you and possibly refresh the way I create content for the next year. More on that later, though.
Let’s get to the recommendations! Today, we’re bringing it back to basics by covering some upcoming drops you should know about, a bunch of long coat recommendations because I know a lot of you have been asking about them — some even on sale, some cool footwear for different occasions, and more!
18 EAST WINTER COLLECTION
At this point, I have to say that 18 East has to be one of my favorite brands right now. Everything they seem to make just hits me differently. I think speaking in terms of color palettes, shapes, and the overall products they put out just fit my current wardrobe rotation perfectly, so it’s a no-brainer that I would be obsessed.
Anyway, the first drop from their winter collection is already out on their site, filled with a bunch of great layers, outerwear, knitted beanies, and more — favorite piece has to be the reversible Joseph Coaches Jacket, for sure. If you’re in New York, highly recommend stopping by their store to see this one in person.
AN ITEM YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS
Some online discourse around football-inspired pieces and how people are tired of brands making them honestly needs to stop… It’s one of those items that will never go out of style, and why should they? I think they are a lot of fun, and in the neverending world of fashion, it’s fine to keep it going in my opinion. Realistically, if you don’t like it, then don’t buy it?
Anyway, Palace has an upcoming drop coming this Friday, December 13th, that will have a very cool long-sleeved football knit that you should know about. You’ve been warned.
HEAT FROM WYTHE
Fans of true luxury menswear should be well aware of Wythe by now, but let me catch you up to speed in case you’re not aware of what’s going on. I know a lot of you have been asking me for long coat recommendations and I’m here to tell you that Wythe might have one of the best options available on the market right now.
On top of that, they also have a great selection of some lighter jackets as well as an array of amazing flannels that are built well and don’t break the bank. What more could you want?
Check out their full selection on their site here, and if you’re in New York make sure you stop by their flagship store to see the stuff in person. You will not be disappointed.

LONG COATS ON SALE
A good wool long coat is never going to be cheap, but sometimes the sale gods bless us with a deal that’s too good to pass up. J.Crew currently has a few good options of their wool coats that are currently on sale for 60% off — a deal that’s worth it. I think these are solid entries to the long coat game, especially if you’ve never owned one but want to try one.
ANOTHER ONE
It’s always good to have variety, and I found another heater of a coat from YMC, which comes in a more relaxed, drop-shoulder cut that has these big buttons I really love. I also love this particular collar style on a coat like this. If I had to pick one coat from today’s list then I am probably going with this one. Comes in two colors and two general sizes — I would consult the sizing chart to ensure a proper fit, but because of the relaxed nature of it, you can’t really go with the wrong size. Just make sure those sleeves are at the proper length and you should be good to go.
STUSSY + DR. MARTENS
This one is hot off the press! Stussy’s collaborations keep stacking, which isn’t the best thing for my wallet since I want it all. The upcoming Dr. Martens collab is scheduled to drop this Friday, December 13th via the Stussy website, which brings two colorways of a classic rigger work boot. Honestly, a very cool collab! Feels a bit different than what Dr. Martens usually puts out, and I’m here for it.
THIS ONE KNIT FROM PHINGERIN
I feel like so many people sleep on this brand when they shouldn’t, but I guess that’s why I’m here to tell you what’s good. Japan-based brand Phingerin started out making pyjamas in 2009 but since has expanded into more casual wear with a twist. They make a lot of cool stuff that I find goes under the radar.
They have a collaboration dropping with Neighborhood on December 14th on their site that features their iconic PG1 knit that I think you shouldn’t sleep on. I’m a huge fan of contrast stitch anything. Add that to a nice heavyweight knit, and it’s a wrap! I would say that sizing up on this one might be the move, especially if you’re taller since it comes in a cropped fit.
A LOAFER WITH DETAILS
Just found this studded loafer from G.H. Bass that will refuse to leave my mind. Loafers are still very much in style and aren’t going anywhere soon — one of my favorite things to do is wear a nice loafer with some sweatpants. I’m talking about that relaxed chic look. With that being said, if you’re like me, then you might enjoy a little bit of flare that takes things above your classic loafer style.
I’m not going to lie, G.H. Bass loafers hurt the feet when you first get them, but fashion is pain, and we have to do what we have to do. So be prepared, but once you break them in you’ll end up with a nice pair of loafers that come with some cool detailing that will for sure have your homies asking for ID in no time.
I ended up finding these over at HHV clothing here, in sizing going all the way up to 13! Have fun.
I LOVE NAVY SHOES
I don’t know when this happened but my obsession with navy shoes is growing at a fast rate. People who tell me navy and black don’t mix need to get out of my way because I disagree!! Buying sneakers in December might feel silly for some, but a lot of our readers are lucky because they live in either warm climates or are travelling to hot places very soon, so you might as well get yourself kitted out with some proper footwear.
Cordura upper detailing is a nice little touch that gives it that extra layer of protection and durability. A great option for an everyday sneaker or even a light trail hiking shoe, and for only $150 you can’t go wrong with these. The New Balance 1906r Cordura is currently available in a bunch of sizes over at Haven here.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST
Ok, so I discovered this work jacket from JLAL recently and was instantly disappointed to find out it was sold out on their site. Fast forward, and I actually ended up finding it over at Tres Bien here for cheaper than their own retail? I don’t know, but I’ll take it.
It comes in a slightly heavier cotton so expect some proper durability here. As you may already realize I’m a sucker for some low-key stud detailing, which is what grabbed my attention in the first place. Wear it on its own, or hit new levels by layering this under an overcoat of sorts!
