What To Buy This Week
Footwear on a budget, jackets on my watchlist, accessories to elevate your outfit, pants that give you perfect outdoor protection, and more!
I didn’t realize this, but we haven’t done a WTBTW newsletter in a while. The content is still flowing, but so many things have been happening recently at SNL that I just haven’t had a chance to sit down and deliver one of my personal favorite segments. Let’s change that though. With the shift into layering season, there has been some new excitement around pieces that we haven’t been wearing in a bit.
In today’s newsletter we have a lot of fun items to go through. We’ll be taking a look at some jackets that have been on my mind recently, some new footwear developments that don’t break the bank, accessories that need more attention, pants because there is always room to talk about more pants, and a bunch of other stuff that you should know about.
By the way, forgot to mention that winners from the recent giveaway with Solovair have been chosen and contacted via email!! Thank you again to everyone who participated and be on the lookout for more giveaways real soon!
FOR ALL TYPES OF ACTIVITIES
I’m still in my hiking footwear era — there are a lot of great designs out there, they provide an adequate amount of protection that is ideal for bad weather, and most of the time the price point is not all that bad. These next two styles have been in on my wanted listed for a minute now, and I think it’s finally time to make the purchase.
Before we dive into those though, I wanted to share what my current hiking shoe rotation looks like. I got the Merrell 1TRL Moab 2, Norse Projects Lace Ups and the ROA Cingino. Each one offers something different in terms of function and looks. Merrells are great, really comfortable, the suede upper is durable and pretty thin which doesn’t really require you to break them in. The Lace Ups from Norse Projects have a completely different look. Water and windproof, they are extremely light, and the cord lace is a nice little detail. The Roa Cingino is a beast. It’s probably the heaviest out of the three, but it’s chill and not in an annoyingly heavy type of way. Solid construction, and the durability of these is kind of crazy. They were extremely comfortable as soon as I put them on.
While this selection will have me covered for this fall season, the heart yearns for more styles to choose from. One particular one that has been on my mind recently is the Jasper from KEEN. They have a bunch of styles to choose from, and I think it could make for a fun addition to my rotation. The midsole on this particular model is rather thin, making the shoe sit closer to the ground, the rubber outsole is going to up that comfort level on pretty much any terrain you step your fit in — I don’t really have anything like that right now so it be interesting to try it out.
For only $110 you can’t really go wrong with these. The styles above are available at A Living Taste store here. You should note that the Keen offers a 30-day trial on the shoe, and if you don’t like it just send it back. I suggest going half a size up when purchasing.
The second shoe that I have on my watchlist is not even for fashion purposes but strictly for mountain survival… With that being said, I’m not looking to go mountaineering, but the Salewa Wildfire 2 has definitely sparked my interest regardless. Full GORE-TEX, equipped with insulation to maintain heat levels in the coldest temperatures, and has a breathable mesh that uses a kevlar cable material on the upper — basically what this means is that you will not be destroying this shoe anytime soon.
I found it available at this random outdoor retailer that is currently offering free shipping to US and Canada. For under $200, the amount of materials and details used, this feels like a pretty solid option for those who are looking for a great looking trail exploration shoe. You can rock these in the city too because ... why not?
