What pants I'm rocking with right now
The Golden Pair of Pants theory, where to get pants for under $150, styles you should have in your wardrobe, and more!
Pants. You’re going to hear this word a lot today. Arguably the most essential part of any good fit, at least that’s how I look at it. How the pants fit and how the bottoms stack on your shoes are probably the only two things I’m looking at when buying some. I always build my outfits starting with pants first. From there, it’s much easier to put the rest together because if the pants look good, the rest will follow.
But the world of pants is not a simple one. You need different options for different life situations. They aren’t cheap these days either, so we need to make every dollar count. In today’s newsletter, we’re going to make sure you’re equipped to avoid a personal pant crisis, we’re going to be checking out styles every person should have in their wardrobe, where to get pants under $150 right now, and more!
I’m going to be frank with you, I have a lot of pants. But my issue is that I don’t get to wear a lot of them because I go through these cycles where I acquire what I like to call, The Golden Pair of Pants. You know the ones. They fit like a glove, go with any outfit, have that perfect stack on your shoes, and so on. The pants you basically end up wearing non-stop for the foreseeable future the moment you get them. Leaving the rest of your rotation in the dust. Any seasoned style veteran has gone through this at some point.
Anyway, mine are the Ideal Trousers from Curated Parade — so good that I got them in two colors.
I know that these are mostly polyester but if I’m being real with you, I kind of like it that way, at least for these ones. They never crease, insanely durable, the higher end quality poly is great at temperature regulation and because of the fabric structure you end up with perfectly stacked pants every single time. For the fit I went with a size 48 — my regular size is a 32 and these fit perfectly.
Curated Parade makes great stuff and I highly recommend everyone to try a pair of their trousers at least once in their life. You won’t regret it. I have a lot of other great options from a variety of brands, but for whatever reason I’ve been constantly going back to these and I don’t think I’ll be stopping any time soon. I think what I enjoy the most about them is the fact that I can wear these on a hike and to dinner all in the same day. That’s what I call versatility!
STYLES TO CONSIDER
People always ask me what styles they should be looking at for their next pant acquisition. In terms of wardrobe versatility you should probably have at least a pair of jeans, a more formal trouser option, performance pants of some kind, and sweats. Realistically, there’s no playbook and you should just acquire what you need/want — a good way of doing so is identifying what you do day to day and then buy stuff that fits your everyday life. For instance, if you work in a corporate setting then you’d probably want something classic, pleated, and easy to pair with let’s say various button ups. These types of pants are also easy to dress down with a hoodie to make them come off more casual.
If you’re on the hunt for something more affordable, has that durability that can last you for years, and still remains stylish then I suggest looking at any skate brand. Their price points are always reasonable, for the most part they are extremely comfortable and rugged enough to withstand any sort of beating up you might do to them. Here are a couple of brands you should keep on your radar:
VICTORIA
This Hong Kong based skate brand makes a variety of relaxed fitting pants that are perfect for skating, chillin, or anything really. Price point is low key amazing, and I was actually surprised at how good the quality of their pants was in comparison. Sizes run between 30-36, giving plenty of options to choose from.
BUTTER GOODS
Based out of Australia, Butter Goods has been around since 2008. Buying new pants that are around $100 seems unheard of these days, but they somehow managed to pump out good quality stuff while keeping the prices down. Their range is a bit larger, giving you a variety of more baggy to relaxed fits. What’s cool about this brand is that they offer huge sizing options — 28” all the way to 46” inch in waist. More brands should be doing this!
FUCKING AWESOME
Another heavy hitter that’s supplying us with a great selection of bottoms for under $150? Sign me up. FA has low key been making bangers for years and people are still sleeping. What’s cool about this brand is while they are making skate oriented gear, they also create styles that feel a bit more elevated.
These are just some great brands you should keep in mind when focusing on a more budget friendly option. Some others that you should definitely check out: Dime, HUF, and Polar Skate Co!
WHAT BRANDS I’M WATCHING RIGHT NOW
I don’t want to be stuck in a loop where I sort of recommend the same brands over and over again. But the problem is, if the brands are making good stuff that I believe are worth your dollar then you might see some repetition of them being highlighted in the blog — and I think that’s ok, especially considering how many new readers we get that might not be aware of past intel. So today, I mixed some brands you might recognize with some new additions to the SNL roster that you should know about.
