The Urge For New Gear
Good pants nobody knows about, a new headwear obsession, Hasbulla on a shirt, and a bunch of great new footwear!
The last couple of days have been a lot of fun—I found new gear to be obsessed about! Don’t get me wrong, new gear drops all the time, so it shouldn’t be that hard to find something new to enjoy, but that’s not always the case. See, I’ve been focusing most of my attention on shirts recently, and that’s mainly because there are a lot of great brands making a lot of really cool shirts—it’s difficult to avoid them right now. While I tried to do my best to avoid talking about shirts in this newsletter, a few still ended up making the list.
With that being said it’s time for me to step back and enjoy some different pieces that cause that same level of excitement. In today’s newsletter, we’re talking about becoming obsessed with a particular hat style, pants that more people should know about, upcoming footwear for fall, and a whole lot more.
Check out last week’s newsletter on what other pieces you should buy.
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE
Ever find a piece that you instantly get obsessed about, only to learn that the item was already sold out? You go straight to the secondary market in hopes of scoring it for the low but all you see are resellers trying to secure the bag of their own. For me, that item is Thisisneverthat’s Sun Sport Cap.
This one stings a bit more because not that long ago I discovered The Trilogy Tapes’ Balaclava Cap that I got really excited about, but once again I ended up catching the L because it was already sold out. When I found out about thisisneverthat’s cap I thought I would have a chance at redemption—I even considered making my own version because I just wanted something like this. I would love to see more modular hats like these in the future!
ANOTHER PAIR OF GOOD PANTS
I’m a big fan of the IG explore page, especially when it introduces me to brands I didn’t know about. Polyteru_ seems to have nailed the ideal fit I’m looking for when shopping for pants right now—baggy! Seems like the fit on these are just right, and for the price of around $150, these might be a solid pick-up. If I have to be honest, the best types of pants are coming out of Korea right now—this is based on my recent experience though, so opinions may vary.
Now, I haven’t actually tried this brand yet, so my hype levels might be a bit premature, but I’m currently in the process of securing a pair to try out. These pants seem to fly because a lot of them are sold out, but if you DM them directly on their Instagram they will try to help you out as best as they can. Worldwide shipping is available as well, which is a huge plus!
Stay tuned for a better review of these pants in the future. Oh yeah, this brand also does a bunch of other stuff besides pants that might be worth looking at!
FALL OPTIONS
I’ve been thinking about adding some dark green to my footwear rotation recently, and my research has led me to find two ideal shoes for my personal rotation. The first pair that caught my attention is a new version of the Merrell Moab that seems to be scheduled for release sometime next year. It’s going to be a long time before we see any details on this shoe, so for now I will just enjoy what’s looking like a fun future for the brand.
The revival of the New Balance 1906 has been having its moment and I’ve been into it because all of the colorways I’ve seen so far have been nothing but great. While this next 1906R doesn’t have a release date, what it does have is some Cordura fabric that takes this shoe to the next level.
I know that I said I’m looking for dark green footwear options, but I had to include the cream version because it’s just that good. I’ll keep you updated on the release once I have more information!
FROM NEW ZEALAND WITH LOVE
The crew over at Checks have been teasing away their next collection and it got me excited. Right now we just have small bites of what’s to come, but judging by the patterns used in these next teasers, it looks like it’s going to be a pretty good season for them.
I’ve been following Checks for a while now, and watching their growth has been a lot of fun—I think more people should know about them so make sure you smash that follow button on the Checks Instagram and stay tuned for more updates on this collection!
If you’re not the waiting type then I suggest browsing their website because there is a bunch of great stuff available to buy right now. Some of my favorite pieces are the shirts, LOL—I swear, the harder I try to avoid shirts, the more I talk about them.
Various sizes are still available for both Corduroy Plaid and Block Print shirts on the Checks website.
HASBULLA ON A SHIRT
It’s hard to avoid talking about shirts right now, especially ones that have Hasbulla on them—lol. By now, everyone should know about Hasbulla, but if you don’t then go over to google and do some research in order to get familiar with the King himself. This shirt from The Divinities is a meme in its purest form, and that’s why I love it.
To my surprise, this shirt is still available to buy from The Divinities website, and if you’re looking to get a few laughs from your squad then this piece will be just the thing.
SPORTS SWAG
I have to come clean, my sportswear attire is pretty mid—actually, maybe it’s not, but I feel like I can do way better than what I have going on right now. A good place to start is going to be the footwear, from there I can work my way up if I really need to. Hoka One One is a staple in its category, and I’ve always been a fan of the Mafate Speed 2, so this next one is a no-brainer for me.
I love clay colors, it’s one that looks good with pretty much every earth tone. I have a few pieces that are pretty much the same as the Hoka’s and I love them. Obviously need to be cautious not to overdo it, but it’s been fun incorporating the clay color to my other pieces. I find that going for a more wild colorway within sportswear is rather easy, so adding these to your rotation shouldn’t be a problem—this is a nice step forward because my daily shoe rotation is mostly black.
The Hoka One One Mafate Speed 2 Burned Clay is available to buy in a variety of sizes here.
Excellent recos! Re: hats with neck shades, I'm a big fan of Outdoor Research's Sun Runner https://www.outdoorresearch.com/us/sun-runner-cap-243433
