The Spring Jacket Report™
Taking a look at a variety of styles to help you find the right jacket for you
The time has come. The Spring Jacket Report™ is finally here and it is packed with recommendations that will have you looking fresh this spring. This report might be a bit delayed but the truth is, it just got cold again here in Canada, and that has been throwing off my timing a little bit. I’ve personally had enough of the cold though so I’m more than ready to finally start adjusting my outerwear setup to welcome lighter jacket options.
In today’s newsletter, we’re taking a look at jackets that are worth investing money into, a look at my personal rotation this spring, one particular style that’s been on my watchlist for way too long, a collaborative duo that has been killing the outerwear game, and much more.
I think I have a pretty solid rotation right now, but as you know it’s difficult to not look at what else is out there. I’m obsessed with outerwear and depending on the mood, I’d like to have a few styles to choose from to keep things fresh. If you’re living somewhere with constant climate changes, then you need a good rotation that can be applied to different situations.
Yeah, you can get one jacket that technically does it all, but what’s the fun in that? Below is my current rotation that I’m rocking with.
Starting from the top left going right:
Nonnative Trooper Blouson — this has probably been the best MA-1 bomber I’ve ever owned. The insane level of quality mixed with the GORE-TEX WINDSTOPPER technology makes this the perfect jacket for windy days. It is lightly insulated which keeps things warm outside, but the GORE-TEX’s breathability allows you to easily wear this indoors.
Always Do What You Should Do Bandemic Jacket — Super lightweight, fun to wear, and completely different in style when compared to the rest. Plaid jackets are on the come up… but if you’re already following on Twitter you might have already known that ;)
Klaxon Howl Type 2 Denim Jacket — The journey of aging one of these is what makes this piece fun, but it does require a lot of consistent wear — there’s no rush though, my aging process is going to take a bit because I like to rotate my jackets often. Beautiful construction all handmade in Toronto. Check out Klaxon Howl on IG here.
Wanze Blouson — Needed something clean, sharp and chic. Something I can easily dress up if needed, or wear to a casual dinner. I think this Blouson from the last season is exactly what I was looking for. Premium quality with great execution. Wanze's newest collection just came out, you should check it out.
My current rotation is looking more than solid, but there is still a desire for even more styles. Plus, I’ve had this next item on my list for way too long. I’ve been trying to protect my wallet from any sudden trauma, and it’s been going well so far, but I’m not entirely sure how long I can last.
The Nanamica Balmacaan Coat
Years have passed and I still want the GORE-TEX Balmacaan Coat from Nanamica… The amount of times I’ve visited the Nanamica NY location to see this one in person is too embarrassing to mention. It’s truly an amazing jacket, and if you ever see one in person you’ll remember it. The price point is what holds me back but the temptation still grows every time I see it.
I don’t know if it’s exactly the right option for spring though because it is pretty long and has some serious weight to it. The GORE-TEX Soutien Collar Coat is a better choice for spring in my opinion — a shorter cut with a lightweight GORE-TEX material will still protect you from any outside moisture coming through. Still on the pricier side but significantly cheaper than the Balmacaan which is pushing at $1200 — these coats are an investment.
