THREE PANTS WORTH KNOWING ABOUT
My obsession runs deep… I mean, it’s almost an addiction because I can’t stop buying pants. Sometimes the stars align and I end up securing exactly what I’ve been looking for with ease. Your wants and needs are constantly changing, at least mine are, there’s different fits, cuts, pocket depth, material used, leg opening, and so on, which are all very important factors to ensure proper balance in an outfit — I’m a big believer of pants being the most important part of your fit. You can have some great things happening at the top and with your shoes, but none of it matters if your pants suck!
I wanted to start off today’s newsletter by reviewing three different pants I recently acquired that stand out in their own unique way, and how they’ve made a perfect addition to my wardrobe rotation.
First on my wanted list was pair of blue denim that had the right amount of bagginess without being too bunched up at the shoe — it’s kind of hard to explain what “the right” amount of baggy really is, but I know it when I see it. On my recent trip to NY I went around to a lot of different shops in order to see stuff in-person and while I saw a bunch of great options, something wasn’t doing it for me. That was until I landed at 18 East to find exactly what I was looking for.
I have a pretty funny anecdote involving 18 East. Years ago they were dropping some pants I was interested in, and not having prior experience with the brand I went to their IG to ask about the inseam measurements — at the time their measurements were a bit questionable, so like any potential customer I had to do my due diligence. After asking I receive a reply that said “The inseam length in just right”… What does that even mean? I was actually so confused, because that did not answer my question whatsoever. I ended up copping the pants anyway and to my surprise they fit me like shorts. I couldn’t believe it because these had have had a 26” inseam or something… ended up giving them to my girlfriend and they fit her perfectly.
It’s all love though because fast forward to today and 18 East has adjusted its sizing for pants because these denim fit me like a glove. These Made-in-India joints come with proper inseam length for all of my tall folks, great amount of bagginess at the crotch area, and a solid leg opening that doesn’t overflow at the feet and stacks really nicely on your shoes.
These seem to be sold out online unfortunately, but there might be a few of these available at their New York store so definitely stop by if you can.
Next up are the Rig Pants from Haven’s newest Fall/Winter collection. Haven has been dabbling with their own mainline for a minute now, and I haven’t had a chance to try anything from them until now. Craftsmanship is off the charts for this one, and it’s noticeable the moment you take them out of the bag.
So what makes these pants so special? Right off the bat, the waist is equipped with snap closures for easy size adjusting. Made in Canada, the cotton twill comes from the famed Italian mill, Duca Visconti di Modrone — short for the quality is insane. The cotton twill is also emerized, which gives it this very slight shininess to the fabric that creates a chic vibe.
