The new Tefnut collection by Kotn
Going back to basics by exploring natural fibres as the original performance fabric
What’s up everyone! We’re keeping things local by linking up with Kotn, a Canadian based label, to explore their new Tefnut collection. I had a chance to see some of the items in person and share my honest thoughts on their collection. Kotn was also kind enough to offer the readers a 15% off discount code for this drop. More information on that will be at the bottom of the newsletter. Before we dive into all that, I wanted to take a quick look at Kotn as a brand and do a quick introduction to those who might be new to it.
Kotn has been around since 2015 with a focus on designing affordable wardrobe basics using natural fibres that are also ethically sourced, something Kotn takes a lot of pride in. It’s good to see brands having their main focus on the actual fabrics at hand, something that’s getting harder to do as prices continue going up. I think what’s also cool is that they constantly remain transparent in their development process, whether that’s back at home in Canada or in Egypt—where a lot of their manufacturing takes place.
In a world where things are costing more and more, especially when developing good products, Kotn has found a great balance in remaining ethical in their production while still keeping prices very affordable. These days that’s pretty rare, so it’s great to have that available for us to enjoy in a way that obviously doesn’t break the bank while supporting good and honest values. Plus, they’re also Canadian which I’m automatically down to support for obvious reasons.
THE COLLECTION
Kotn tapped into utilitarian-inspired silhouettes that are crafted using 100% organic paper-touch cotton. It’s lightweight, naturally breathable, water resistant, and most importantly it’s durable. The aim with this collection was to challenge the notion of outdoor gear being made with artificial materials like nylon and polyester.
The items were garment-dyed to create a more broken-in texture while remaining soft to the touch. There’s a good amount of structure in the items, but not to the point where it feels stiff or uncomfortable, which I find rather important—the lightweight characteristics of the fabric keeps things comfortable and just feels good to put on.
Big fan of the natural dyed colors that the hoodies and the rest of the items come in. The piece is insanely lightweight and because they are unlined, it’s very easy for you to either throw it over a tee or use as a layer with another jacket. Simple two mini pockets at the front paired with a nice double YKK zipper will make this pretty simple to style with your existing wardrobe. Since the aim of this piece is to simply throw over yourself after some outdoor activities, there are no drawstring on the hood, which I usually don’t really enjoy, but because of the way the fabric is easily structured, I actually like that there are no drawstrings. Small detail, but I’m into it! They’re keeping it basic, straight to the point, and I like that. I say go with your true size on this one!
Ok, now I know a lot of you are going to really like the pants, and personally I think they are my favorite item from this drop. Because of the structure of the organic cotton and the curved leg seam, you’re getting this very natural shape that just falls really nicely around your legs. In terms of fit they are a relaxed leg with a mid-rise. They also already felt broken in the moment I put them on which is a huge plus.
One thing that I really enjoy about these pants is the little pocket that’s almost on the inside of the bigger one. It’s a nice little detail that’s perfect for loose change or any other small objects you might need to carry—I don’t have a proper wallet that has a coin holder, so I just end up having my change swim around at the bottom of my pocket usually or it ends up falling out completely. I know it’s not a massive deal, but it’s a solution to problem that makes my life a little easier.
Overall, kind of excited to add this item to my wardrobe, especially once the warmer weather comes in. That lightweight breezy fabric is going to be perfect for those hot crispy days.
Last but not least, I also got to check out some shorts, which come in a 9.5” inseam, giving you enough length to have these stop just right at your knee—of course that really depends on your body type, but I’ll let you figure it out for yourself. I got to check out the plum and black colorways. The design is the same as the pants, you get that cool little pocket I mentioned earlier, classic utilitarian pocket design, belt loops if you want to accessorise. These are just some classic shorts, pretty straight to the point.
These are just some of the clothing I saw from the collection, but there are a few more items that will be dropping that you should definitely know about. Specifically the jacket and the vest, which I’ll show you more of down below.
So what are my actual thoughts on the collection? I love simplicity that is easy to incorporate into my daily wardrobe and I think these clothes fit that well. I also enjoy that the fabric is unique to what I already have in my closet—it’s different, it’s very lightweight and I’m excited to pair it with my everyday items to see how I can achieve new looks. I also do think that for what you’re getting in terms of quality vs the price you pay makes this collection very worth acquiring. You’re supporting an ethical brand and in return you’re getting some great pieces. I think that’s a pretty good trade.
To celebrate the release, Kotn is giving you the chance to cop the collection for 15% off using code STREETNIGHTLIVE15 at checkout!

Really digging the navy beach hoodie 👀. About the pants — do you recommend going TTS or sizing up? The website suggests sizing up, but the size guide has me at my usual size…any advice? (Thanks in advance!!)
