The Coat Of My Dreams
Taking a look at a coat that's been living in my head rent free and highlighting some other alternatives worth looking at.
Over the last couple of weeks, I have been doing some much-needed research for my outerwear choices this season. A lot of great options out there, which can make things challenging because there’s a good chance that the piece I choose will end up as my everyday item, so it better be worth the money.
Recently I stumbled upon a photo—shown below—that solidified my choice; I wanted a long coat for fall! In today’s newsletter, I wanted to show you the coat that has been living my head rent-free, good coats on sale that you can buy right now, and other alternatives that will keep you busy trying to decide what coat is perfect for you.
This piece from Nanamica has been on my radar for a minute, and on my most recent trip to NY, I had to go check it out for myself. Yeah, the price might be crazy ($1400), but this coat is insane to the point where I might consider buying it. Of course, I would need to sell most of my closet to recoup the losses or go into financial debt.
Right away, what stood out to me was the weight of this piece—it’s not light—so make sure those shoulders are ready. The heavier weight is ideal because I have a similar coat that is much lighter. Whenever any sort of wind is involved, I noticed that this length just ends up never staying still, which can be annoying at times—the heavier option will hold its form in most windy conditions.
The entire coat is made using GORE-TEX cotton twill, which will be essential for me here in Canada. One thing that stood out is the coat has a fascinating shine—I only noticed it on the neutral color of this coat, but the truth is I can’t remember if the navy version also had it—regardless, the shine wasn’t in any way annoying, was only noticeable up close and under specific lighting; it’s a nice touch that elevated this piece above other coats I’ve been looking at recently.
