The last month or so has been tough for me—not that anything went wrong, I was just really bored with what was going on in streetwear. I know that a lot is happening, good clothing is coming out, but there was just something missing for me. It wasn’t anything in particular, there was just a need for some new excitement.
Growing up on Supreme in my teenage years really left a mark on my personal style choices, and even though the brand has gone directions that didn’t really interest me, it somehow always ends up pulling me back in. Supreme’s recent Spring/Summer 22 collection reminded me why I loved the brand in the first place.
Nostalgia has been hot recently, and after taking a hiatus from Supreme, it felt like the right time to go down memory lane by channeling a younger version of myself. I find that pretty much anyone who is into Supreme is willing to risk it all just to prove to you why FW18 was better than FW20, and so on—we need to acknowledge the fact that every season comes with its hits and misses. What affects people’s personal preference of each collection is dependent on their hits to misses ratio.
At the beginning of the year, I wrote a meme-esqe trend report that was more of a request of things I wanted to see happen in streetwear. Stating that buying Supreme is coming back in still feels like a meme to me, but after securing a box logo hoodie at the end of 2021, it felt like it was an appropriate time to start wearing the brand again—unironically of course.
The newest collection ended up knocking me off my feet and slapping me across the face because it’s good, I mean really good. It feels like Supreme is starting to realize that not every piece needs huge branding on each piece and some designs are better without any branding at all—something that I wish happened sooner but I am excited that it’s happening regardless. As I mentioned above, the collection has its hits and misses, and the array of insane accessories never leaves us disappointed, guaranteeing a few chuckles along the way.
Supreme’s leather pieces are always strong, but this season feels different. I’m a huge fan of the hooded GORE-TEX piece-top left corner. The issue is trying to figure out which color to get as there will be black, pink, and grey versions of this jacket. The water-resistant faux croc leather—bottom right—comes with matching bottoms in both teal and black—the set might be the perfect thing you need if you’re aiming to look like a mob boss.
Let’s not forget the Silver Surfer set, which is honestly incredible—shout out to all my Marvel fans out there. The level of detail on the back patch is crazy and will be an amazing piece to break into over the years.
The outerwear is always my favorite, and with so many different things going on this season, it’s going to be really hard to keep my wallet safe. I can’t even begin to start talking about the variety of different styles offered, from the Umbro tracksuit all the way to the hooded coat, all of it is refreshing—we can’t forget to mention the variety of different artists that have been enlisted to showcase their work, from Raúl de Nieves to Nate Lowman.
Supreme’s knit game was always solid, but the lack of branding on the pieces from this collection has me wondering why they haven’t done this sooner. Wearing Supreme without letting the entire world know that the piece is Supreme makes it feel more personal and it doesn’t make you look corny—especially if you’re trying to rock Supreme in your 30s.
I am dying for the heat and summer can’t come fast enough. While I wait, I will imagine all the fits I can build with the shirts shown above. From the leopard print—bottom right corner—, to the Lil Kim shirt, the options will keep you busy for days. Let’s not forget that this is just the regular collection, and we don’t even know what’s to come in terms of the various collaborations—needless to say, I am excited!!
Whenever I am feeling adventurous I can always count on Supreme to give me the craziest patterned bottoms that will keep me looking wild for months to come. I’m surprised to see that they are still trying to push the double-knee pants—I really thought we were behind this, but it looks like we are going to squeeze the trend one more time for good measure.
It’s really hard to pick a few pants/shorts to showcase in this newsletter because there are so many good ones, but I did my best to show you the ones I am currently feeling the most:
While all of these are great, I am really interested in the fit of the Baggy Jeans— bottom right corner. Will these replace Polar’s Big Boy Jeans? Maybe not, but I’m excited to see Supreme giving the baggy trend some love.
With that being said, we can’t forget to talk about the shorts. Usually, I find that the shorts tend to be boring, but also my opinion depends on what type of fashion mood I’m in at that particular moment. I’m really excited that we got some crazy patterns for shorts that don’t feel too crazy, something that’s going to be wearable—Need to budget and decide what colors to choose from because frankly all of these shorts are amazing:
Sitting down and writing about Supreme’s recent collection felt like a fever dream, but at the end of analyzing and writing this newsletter, it made me realize how much fun I used to have when going through the collections when they first dropped.—a feeling I haven’t had for many years due to different fashion interests at the time—but I’m ready to channel nostalgia, studying this collection over and over while blasting She by Tyler over the speakers, as I try to decide which pieces to grab for the summer.
This collection really makes me excited for streetwear in general because let’s be real, a lot of brands are already taking notes and we will be seeing similarities in different collections soon. There is a lot more that is worth talking about, and honestly, I could have easily written another 2,000 words about this collection but then we would be here until the night, and nobody has time for that.
I would love to hear what pieces you’re feeling/not feeling from this collection, hit the comments below to share your thoughts, and as always thank you for reading the SNLetter.
love all the excitement around this season, I really liked all of the Nate Lowman pieces.
