Today we are linking up with Noah NY to check out their latest collaboration with PUMA. We have a lot of great gear to get through, and the best part is, the prices don’t break the bank. What more can you want? In their continued partnership the two are leaning toward American sportswear as the foundation for the inspiration behind this collection.
Before we dive into my thoughts, the capsule is already out on the Noah website which you can check out in full here.
THE COLLECTION
Let’s start with the footwear. Leaning into two classic models, the Suede Classic and the Star. I’m not going to lie, I think my personal favorite is the Star and that’s mainly because I reignited my obsession with tennis thanks to Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” — that movie was great, and if you haven’t seen it yet I suggest you go do that after this newsletter.
It’s no secret that if you look good, you play good, and I think that this shoe is going to be perfect to elevate my game on and off the court. Realistically, you don’t need these just for tennis because these are going to be a great as an everyday shoe. The classic design is going to be really easy to pair with whatever outfit you want, the cream laces add a nice little touch that pairs against the color of the midsole which I enjoy, and there’s great level of comfort right out of the box.
What’s interesting about the Star is that it’s a re-issue of the PUMA Wimbledon, a professional tennis shoe that premiered in the late ‘70s and was never released in the USA at that time. There are leather upper versions of the shoe, but I think I’m really into the canvas upper because of the instant comfort that doesn’t require any breaking in — and for only $110, this is going to be a solid choice if you need an easy wearing shoe for the summer.
The Made in Japan MIJ Suede Classic is definitely one that you shouldn’t skip though. PUMA is having their comeback moment, and their classic lineup fits the current shoe trends that focus on a thinner midsole right now — so, don’t rule them out! Anyway, whenever I see any shoe with brown suede I immediately start counting how many dollars I have to spend. A nice brown shoe literally goes with any sort colored bottom, it’s a great option for those who enjoy darker colored sneakers but still want a little bit of splash of color, and they are going to be easy to keep fresh — at least in my experience I find that suede shoes are pretty easy to clean.
Now for the lowkey slappers in their apparel collection. Pleasantly surprised at them pricing all of the clothes on the affordable side, which right now is more than needed, so I’m hyped on that. The clothing has some cool references that we’ll get to in a minute, but I wanted to start it off by looking at the Mesh Practice Top that’s only $70??
A nice little combination of branding from both sides to create a varsity-like logo on the front, with no other graphics on the back — which if you ask me is the right move here. Sometimes I don’t love when there are designs on the back of a jersey, but that’s just me. Very straightforward stuff otherwise, this is going to be a fun piece to style when the sun is beaming and you’re just looking for maximum breathability, and for that price? Forget it, instant purchase.
There are also matching shorts if you’re trying to pull up in the full set, but that’s not necessary because they will be fun to wear individually as well — these are also only $85 which is solid price for a pair of great shorts.
For the rest of the collection you have a hat, tee and a pair of pants. The Painter Pant comes in this soft rose pink colorway that makes me want to move by the water, pair them with a nice button up with the rolled up sleeves, and just enjoy late night strolls by the water — that’s the vibe I’m getting here, but these will be fun to execute in the city as well. Soft pink is hot right now, and if you’re someone who enjoys taking a bolder approach with your bottoms, then these will be a lot of fun to style.
The reference used for the graphic on the tee is actually pretty neat. Noah is known for leaning into various genres of music when designing their collections, and this collaboration is no different. For the inspiration behind this tee they pulled up the F-Punk studio album cover by Big Audio Dynamite — a cool little nod that translated pretty well with PUMA’s branding.
And that’s pretty much it! The collection is a fun one, it has cool references from the past, and most importantly it doesn’t break my wallet. Overall a solid collab that’s worth checking out.
