HUF Holiday Collection
Celebrating the past and the future with HUF's 20-Year Anniversary collection!
Today’s newsletter is a special one—HUF recently announced their Holiday ‘22 collection, which is a 20-Year Anniversary ender and homage to Keith Hufnagel’s lasting legacy, and when they reached out wanting to do a newsletter together, it was an absolute no-brainer for me. I grew up at a time when having a pair of HUF’s weed socks was one of the coolest things you could own as a teen—One of my first jobs was working at a clothing store, and at that time they used to have a dedicated wall for HUF socks, and it was absolutely massive—being a teenager who was also just getting into skating, Keith Hufnagel and HUF’s influence was very important to the culture, skateboarding and ultimately ended up playing a big role as I was growing up as a teenager.
More recently, HUF wasn’t part of my regular clothing rotation, getting into new hobbies and interests ended up changing my personal style and the things that I liked. Because of this, my personal taste shifted and I slowly started getting into different brands. I’ll be honest, I haven’t worn HUF in a while, but I think it’s time to change that because the collection I’ll be talking about today has a lot of great, affordable pieces that make the brand feel new while retaining that classic essence of HUF I used to know when I was younger.
Holiday ‘22 will be dropping today at 12pm ET via the HUF website.
HUF’s Holiday ‘22 collection is massive, and while this newsletter won’t go into every single item, instead what I wanted to do is highlight my favorite pieces from the collection. Let’s get right into it by taking a look at outerwear options that will be dropping later today.
A lot of great hooded options to choose from that will have us prepared for the colder weather. I’m a big fan of both the hooded fleece (black) and the quilted jackets that are lined with thermal material to ensure extra coziness. While those are great, the standout for me has to be the work jacket which comes in ‘Bark Camo’. This one actually comes with a pair of matching pants which I’ll talk about more down below.
The black pocket detailing is actually a lot of fun and I’m glad that they did that because it almost breaks apart the pattern a little bit in a way that makes it way more enjoyable to wear—I think that if the jacket was just a straight all-over print, it would be a bit too much for my liking. If you’re looking for something sturdy that can take a beating while having some swag to it, then this set is probably for you. The 10 oz Duck Canvas has a crazy tight weave, insuring maximum durability.
HUF’s knit game is very solid. Some good cardigans—haha, you know me, I forget how to act when a brand makes all patterned cardigans, so excuse me in advance —great zip-ups and a really fun sweater I might have to buy myself later today.
HUF is really nostalgic when it comes to classic streetwear, at least back in my time when I was just getting into streetwear it was all about loud prints, fun colors and pieces that made a statement—I’m happy that for this collection the team went back to brands original roots by bringing back that classic streetwear feeling, but with a modern approach that can be worn today. (Let’s be real, there is a lot of old streetwear out there that is just not going to work in today’s fashion climate, but maybe next we will try to bring LRG back for all of my true streetwear heads).
I was lucky enough to get a cardigan sent from the team, and it’s been a lot of fun to wear—it fits true to size, and has a slightly cropped cut to it, so if you’re afraid of the long cardigans then you’ve come to the right place. I know a lot of people don’t want itchy cardigans, and I don’t either, so I’m happy to report that I haven’t experienced that with this piece. The cracked pattern is fun, and the fact that there’s no branding is just a cherry on top.
The other two knits shown above are just as great as the cardigan I received—really need the allover still life crewneck, and the zip knit will make for a great layering piece that will work with any outfit—I know that to some, the all-over print might be too much, and for even me I usually steer clear, but this is a homage to the old streetwear days for when we were kids, so it just hits a different spot.
I was pleasantly surprised at the bottoms offered in this collection; plenty of good fitting pants, some good basic options, and louder options are also available if that’s your thing. The affordable pricing should put these on everyone’s watch list and there’s a lot more to choose from then what I’m showing you today.
HUF sent out a few pairs for testing, and although I haven’t had a lot of time getting to test the products to their full potential, the experience that I have had so far has been positive.
The overall styles are pretty baggy on the fit, which is great, but what I liked about these was the fact that the leg opening was just a little bit smaller than your usual baggy pant, which ended up tying the fit overall really nicely—baggy pants are good with a more bulky shoe or even a boot, which means that wearing a thinner modelled shoe will cause your pants to drag on the ground, and sometimes that’s annoying, so it’s nice to have an option that’s a bit more tapered at the bottom.
I’m excited to wear these a whole lot more to give them the proper testing they deserve—Actually excited to skate the denim because a lot of my baggy pants end up rubbing on the grip tape because of the excess material stacked at the bottom of the pant, so I’m hoping that these might be perfect for that. We obviously need to highlight the Bark Camo pants, which are part of the set I mentioned above earlier. The pattern on these is a lot of fun, and the hidden HUF logo within the camo is a fun little detail that doesn’t stand out that easily—you have to look for it! These are definitely more on the stiffer side due to the duck canvas used, but once you wear them a bunch they will break in really nicely.
Definitely recommend checking out their pant section, as there are a bunch of different options from denim, canvas, corduroy, sweats and a bunch more.
These are just some of the great items that will be available when the collection drops later today. There are shirts, hoodies, long sleeves, graphic tees, and a bunch of fun accessories to choose from. Here are some items that I really enjoyed within the collection but didn’t have a chance to try for myself in person—If the quality of the clothes I did get is anything to go by, then the rest of the collection is going to be really solid.
The full HUF Holiday ‘22 collection will be available on the HUF website on October 13th, 12 PM ET. Once again, a big thank you to HUF for setting this up, and I’m excited for everyone who ends up scooping up something from this collection!! I want to see those pick up posts so make sure to tag me on IG or Twitter!
