How to dress for your job in the summer
What brands I'm shopping at for elite-level menswear that's perfect for the office, how to remain stylish while surviving the heat, building outfits, and more!
It’s been hot these days. At a certain point, the heat becomes so unbearable that you have no choice but to forfeit fashion for survival. A uniform to survive on the weekends could be something as simple like shorts, a white tee, and some easy to wear sneakers, but things can get more complicated when needing to dress for work.
Here, fashion choices may feel limited. For some, a more corporate environment means tucked in shirts, trousers, and maybe even blazers and ties. If your job has a free smoothie bar at the office though, then you can probably dress a bit more casually. And for those who are their own boss, then restrictions on style may not necessarily apply. This is where the fun begins.
In today’s newsletter I want to help you refresh your desk job fit. We’re going to go over ideas on what you can wear to the office this summer, we’ll build some outfits as inspiration, discuss how to remain stylish while surviving the heat, and I’ll share brands I’m shopping at for elite-level menswear that are perfect for the office and a night out.
Since we’re talking about summer fits at the office, we have to remember to keep things light. If you’re someone who finds themselves struggling in the heat, then you need to think linens and light cotton fabrics like seersucker for maximum breathability when shopping for new clothes. If you got strength and don’t mind a little heat then thicker cottons will do great—giving you a bit more options to choose from.
I find that footwear is the most important factor in remaining cool. Dragging heavy weight around all day adds to unnecessary exhaustion, so be mindful when buying shoes. It’s something you might not necessarily think about it, but I find that it helps to have lighter footwear while wearing thicker fabrics.
Fashion is pain though, and sometimes there’s no choice but to suffer in the name of style.
For the sake of discussion, let’s say that most of the offices you work at come equipped with air conditioning. This grants you ability to layer. Of course being outside with layers is a different question. Too hot? Take off that layer and throw it over your shoulder, problem solved. The fact that I am writing about it almost seems trivial.
I constantly talk about versatility in clothing. Clothes that are built for the job, dinner plans, or even a casual hangout, is what conscience buying is all about. Plus, getting dressed again is back, so it’s a great opportunity to really invest in yourself by picking up a nice shirt, some trousers, and a pair of whatever shoes you want. You deserve it.
