Happy Tuesday to all of my fellow fashion enthusiasts! In today’s newsletter, we are not wasting any time and jumping right into business: answering the most pressing reader questions that were left in the SNL Instagram DMs, as well as a curated lineup of some pieces I’ve had on my radar for a minute that ended up finding some crazy deals on!
Once in a while, I ask the SNL IG followers to share their most burning fashion-related questions, and while a lot of today’s questions will be just a slice of the questions that were asked during the last few days, I’ll do my best to answer everyone who didn’t have their question featured today by replying to you directly — please keep those questions coming in the future I love them!!
Teddy asks: Any thoughts on Eastlogue? Thought their capsule with New Balance was great but got no attention.
Eastlogue is definitely underrated! Created in 2011 out of Seoul, South Korea, Eastlogue has been killing the outerwear game. In terms of the lack of hype for the New Balance collaborations, (they’ve had two: The Fresh Foam Hierro V6 and the Rigger Made collection) I think it has to do with the fact that some of the releases were Korea exclusive, as well as just a general lack of hype for Korean Brands — feels like there’s a lack of coverage for Korean brands, but lately, that narrative has been shifting and I’m seeing more and more coverage, which is great!
Josh asks: How often do you have a wardrobe reassessment? (get rid of a bunch of stuff)
This one is tricky. I’m kind of a hoarder when it comes to clothes, and more recently I came to the conclusion that I want to build out a physical archive of the things I own—clothes, accessories, books, anything fashion related really—which has made it even harder to let go of things. What usually happens is, I end up wearing 3/4 pieces over and over, sometimes it’s the exact same outfit for weeks, after that I end up just storing the pieces and then moving on to the next thing that has grabbed my attention next.
To really answer your question though, I would say at least once a year (around spring) I will go through my closet and take out the pieces I don’t wear anymore in order to make space for future items. I wanted to open up a small online store where I can offload some of these garments, but never know if people will actually buy anything.
Mike asks: What colorway should I buy in the Stussy x Timberlands or both?
What’s up with the hate on these boots? Recently, I saw a comment saying how the boots are part of the “school shooter club” which is some unnecessary nonsense to me… They are just boots can people chill out? Anyway, if I had to pick I think the wheat colorway will have to be my answer, although the simple black leather will always be a vibe!
Evan asks: In current fashion is it quality or price that drives popularity?
I think that it’s a bit of both with a sprinkle of clout that ultimately helps drive the popularity of a brand. Some brands focus on quality first in their garments, which doesn’t come cheap—customers could be buying strictly because the quality is top, but some definitely are buying because they don’t need to worry about what’s at the bottom of their bank account. Add a few famous people wearing the brand to the mix and you have a recipe for overnight success.
However, I do think that we are in a time where people are tired of buying overhyped clothes and are slowly shifting to becoming much more conscious buyers in general—focusing on quality and a positive environmental impact! Spending a little bit more is always the move if you’re looking to get something that will last you for years to come.
Kelvin asks: Old fashion trend you think will come back in 2023?
Bell bottom jeans. We can argue that they have already sort of made their return, but there have been skaters who started to rock them recently, and skaters have always been the blueprint when it comes to trends in general. Interested to see how they will affect the trend game and if bell bottoms will end up catching on within the mainstream lens.
Big thank you to everyone who submitted their questions. If you didn’t receive an answer to your question don’t stress, I will hit you up personally in those DMs.
Sales in general used to be a truly special time, once in a while we would get blessed on markdowns that would minimize the pain within our wallets, but recently it seems that these sales go on for way longer than usual—which is a bonus for all of us. Just a few weeks ago I put out a really packed sales-themed newsletter which featured some insane deals, and I’m happy to report that I have returned with even further markdowns on items I’ve been keeping a close eye on this past season.
Today we are going to look at a breakdown of some of my favorite items on sale, as well as a list of some of my personal favorite stores that are featuring bigger sales than before!
