End of the week recommendations
Taking a look at how to approach building an outfit with an open mind vs focusing on individual items.
As you may have already been aware, I love recommending great clothes. But highlighting individual items sometimes isn’t as fun as putting a whole outfit together, so that’s exactly what I wanted to do with today’s recommendations—let’s building some outfits.
We’ll still go over the individual items, which you’ll be able to shop in a private list that is available to all paid subscribers—one of the many great benefits of becoming a paid sub btw. And while we’re doing that we’ll also build some outfits to get some ideas flowing.
Individual pieces that look good on their own are great, but they might not serve you as much if you don’t put them together well with the rest of your look. With that being said, there’s also the complete opposite side of the coin. Sometimes items that you might not even consider individually might end up looking great in a specific outfit, and I think that’s going to be an important topic in today’s newsletter.
I used to look at individual pieces and write them off instantly without even having a second thought about them. I realized that wasn’t the correct approach because you’re actually limiting yourself. Having an open mind and looking at clothing beyond the individual item will actually make it much easier for you to get dressed more effortlessly. Plus opinions change quickly, especially when it comes to clothing, and that’s totally ok. I always recommend going back and looking at the same pieces multiple times, especially when it comes to new collections. Most of the time, you’ll end up changing your mind and start seeing clothes from a different perspective—you’ll more likely to like more items from a collection after seeing it several times vs just passing through it once.
Something that you might not gravitate to at first might actually end up pairing well with an existing item in your closet without you even realizing. Looking at an item with an open mind is something you have to force yourself to start doing and after a while you might notice that you’re actually doing this subconsciously. That’s when you really start getting dressed without even trying.
My whole thing about getting dressed, or acquiring clothing in general, is all about versatility. Could I wear this to my office job and then go chill with the homies with the same fit later without feeling too dressed up? Good clothing isn’t cheap, and if you’re going down the route of acquiring stuff that’s going to last, you might as well buy stuff that is simple but has that quality and longevity that will make it fun for you to wear the same thing for a long time.
