A new brand creating great clothes from the UK
Take a look at TDR, a brand focusing on upholding traditional British design and quality!
We have an exciting newsletter today. Well, I’m excited, that’s for sure, because I love discovering new brands, especially when they are making really great garments for a good price. TDR is a new brand born out of West London by the great people behind Couverture & The Garbstore — a multi-brand retailer specializing in womenswear and menswear with a mix of great accessories and home goods.
Recently I got to check out some of the items, learn more about the brand, and share my overall thoughts with you today. It’s always difficult to pivot into clothing design, especially when you’re a retailer, but I think that for their first collection, TDR started strong, nailing unique details across garments while focusing on fabrics and the overall manufacturing process to create a well-rounded collection of great pieces.
I was pleasantly surprised at the wide range of products that they ended up executing for their first collection. Great outerwear, knits crafted by mills in the UK, fabrics sourced from Japan, with classic british design references that all come together to create stuff that’s easy and fun to wear. Anyway, let’s take a look at some of the pieces.
The Zip-Up knit is an absolute slapper. As soon as I saw the double zipper detailing I knew it was a wrap — I’ve said this before, but I believe every zipper should be a double zipper. It allows for additional styling possibilities that is always a bonus to have on any garment.
I did grab a size large and it did fit a little bit more snug. Granted I am tall, but I would suggest possibly sizing up on this one. It comes in a slightly cropped fit that just sits nicely around the waist area, pairing well with whatever pants you’re rocking them with. Extremely soft and light, this is a great piece that’s going to be a pleasure to layer with on a cold night.
Don’t want a zipper? No stress because you also have a simple crew neck option in the same knit finish that’s also really great.
Ok, the Warden Pants took me by absolute surprise. A nice loose fit that is crafted in this insanely soft and lightweight Japanese cotton that doesn’t require any breaking in. They also come with some fun detailing, like the side pockets for example. Traditional jeans have their pocket openings at the waist, which is fine, but when you’re sitting and need something out of your pocket you end up having to stretch your leg out while leaning back so you can get your phone out. With these you don’t have to do all of the acrobatics to get your stuff out, which is a tiny detail but makes for a much more enjoyable experience.
They also come with sterling silver hardwear that was crafted by Japanese maker, North Works — the hook for your keys is a nice little detail that can be transferred to other pants if you wish, but the cool thing is you get a whole accessory with your pants, who wouldn’t want that?
Pleats are also a sweet detail that I’m enjoying on these. Overall, extremely comfortable right out of the bag. I’m sure I am going to be chilling in these for the foreseeable future this fall.
Now I’m really curious to explore the rest of their pants considering that they went off with this pair. Highly recommend giving their pant section a proper browse as they offer a variety of their styles in various fabrics.
I also got to check out this side bag in collaboration with UNBY General Store. Crafted in Japan using waterproof suede, comes in three different colors, two internal pockets and detachable strap that turns the bag into a pouch — perfect for traveling in my opinion.
You can tell that this was manufactured with a focus on detail that ensures a product that’s built to last for years to come. I personally don’t rock side bags like this, but the option to turn it into a pouch is something that I know I will be using every time I travel anywhere, so I’m definitely excited to beat this one up and see how it ages with time.
The full collection is currently available directly on their website here — which has an array of knits, polos, bottoms, outerwear and more. Below are some additional favorite pieces of mine, featuring some cool detailing that gives this brand their own unique vision to classic staples. Versatility in color with a mix of different fabrics keeps things exciting, which also styles well together. Allowing you to easily pick up a few pieces and rock them together or separately with ease.
Overall, a solid start to a brand that will hopefully only get better with time. I also do believe that the pieces are priced honestly compared to the quality and the attention to detail you receive. The quality is great and the various detailing you will come across in each piece keeps things and is great for those who want to have just a dash of excitement in their outfit without doing too much.
If you’re ever in London then I highly suggest stopping by their store to explore the pieces in person — 188 Kensington Park Rd, London W11 2ES, United Kingdom
On that note, I leave you with their recent lifestyle editorial that works the entire collection to showcase how you can easily mix and match the pieces to create your perfect look. Shot by Kae Homma
